Virat University strictly adheres to a zero-tolerance policy against ragging. We are committed to maintaining a healthy, secure, and welcoming environment for all students, across all programs and departments.
🏫 Creating an Anti-Ragging Campus
At Virat University, we are fully committed to eradicating ragging in every form. To ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive campus, we have implemented the following preventive measures.
Preventive Steps:
Mandatory Anti-Ragging Undertaking from students and parents during admission.
Anti-Ragging Awareness Sessions conducted at the start of each academic year.
Signage & Posters across campus areas: classrooms, hostels, canteen, library, and restrooms.
Monitoring Committees deployed in hostels, corridors, and common student areas.
Dedicated Anti-Ragging Committee and Squad to supervise and handle complaints.
What is Ragging?
Ragging includes one or more of the following:
Teasing, ridiculing, mocking or bullying a student
Forcing someone to do acts against their will
Physical or verbal abuse
Social media bullying or online humiliation
Creating psychological pressure or isolation
Any act that lowers the self-esteem or mental well-being of a student
⚖️ Legal Framework & Disciplinary Action
Ragging is a punishable criminal offense under:
UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009
Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 294, 323, 506, 107, etc.
🚨 Punishments for Ragging:
Depending on the severity of the offense, the university may impose:
❌ Written warning and counselling
❌ Suspension from classes and academic privileges
❌ Withholding of scholarships/fellowships
❌ Debarring from exams, placement, or hostel facilities
❌ Expulsion from the institution
❌ Filing of FIR and criminal proceedings with police
❌ Imprisonment up to 3 years and/or fine up to ₹25,000
🛡️ Anti-Ragging Committee
The Anti-Ragging Committee consists of senior faculty, administrative staff, legal advisors, and student representatives.
This committee:
Investigates all complaints confidentially
Takes preventive action in suspected situations
Recommends punishment in confirmed cases
Reports to the affiliating university and UGC portal
